This article reviews the existing natural and artificial sorbents used for water purification from petroleum and petroleum products. A popular, widely used sorbents and new technologies, such as Versoil sorbent, sorbent based on the waste of olive oil production, sorbent-based waste felting production are considered. There are advantages of the use of a sorbent depends on its cost and the requirements to the quality of purification. There are the chemical composition of petroleum and the reasons for its detrimental impact on natural components.
