DescriptionThe article describes the characteristic features of British political discourse, its historical development and the formation and characteristics of the British sense of humor. We noted that political humor reflects the mood and attitude of trends in politics. Political discourse has been viewed as socially-oriented communication, which is in the nature of persuasive and compelling communication, dominated by the imperative type of speech, which, in turn, creates preconditions for the implementation of the comic. We have defined defamatory, socially critical, and harmonizing functions. Special attention is paid to the role of the addressee, as the factor, which determines the political communication's aim. We have observed that British politicians use humor carefully so as not to provoke their opponents and dissenters in mocking their use of humor or turning their statements against themselves. The article contains the analysis of illustrative material consisting of quotations of the British political and public figures. English humor can be studied from the point of view of transformational grammar, in which case the jokes are divided into prosaic and poetic ones. Prosaic jokes are based on social and cultural situations, human interactions. Poetical jokes are based on grammatical forms and their irregular usage

DescriptionThe article discusses the specific character of the representation of the concept “Wall” in the Russian and German linguistic fields. The peculiarities of the historical development, the different world views and world interpretation, the fundamental divergence of the life philosophy of the Russians and Germans are causes of the distinct fragments fixation of the linguistic view of the world which have been realized by the concept “Wall”. The global changes in social and political life of the society generally may have an effect on the lexico-phraseological language fund, works of literature and also social and political essays. The undertaken analysis of the mentioned phraseological units and certain texts has revealed the national specifics of the of the concept “Wall” realization in the national linguistic cultures. It made possible to draw a conclusion from polar connotation of the concept under consideration in Russian and German. In the opinion of the author the concept “Wall” has been fixed in the Russian mind as a symbol of the national unity and patriotism, confidence in the future, safe defense. In German mind the concept «Wall» arouses the negative associations which have been caused by the concrete events in the German history. In this context the analysis of the peculiarities of the concept “Wall” linguistic realization is of substantial interest. As a result of the undertaken research, the author concludes the main reasons of the semantic coincidences and also about their lacks in the Russian and German linguistic cultures

FEATURES OF THE DISCOURSE FUNCTIONING OF AN ELECTRONIC SCIENTIFIC AND PRACTICAL JOURNAL

DescriptionThe subject of the study is the discursive nature of the electronic scientific journal "Philological aspect" in the network environment. This work uses the method of traditional linguistic description, the logicalsyntactic method of studying, the method of functional text analysis, discursive analysis, which allows identifying the characteristics of the participants of the discourse communication and their impacts on them. The article deals with a new type of discourse, which represents a combination of research, networking, teaching, administrative, advertising, mass-media types of discourse that are reflected in the functioning of the electronic scientific and practical journal, and realize on the modern electronic platform as a means of mass information; determines the specific characteristics of a new discourse type compared to the traditional discourse types. Scientific novelty of the research is to establish the constitutive features of a research, networking, academic types of discourse in the new discourse type, which is peculiar to the electronic scientific and practical journal, identifying lexical, grammatical and textual features and characteristics of the structural-semantic and pragmatic parameters of this discourse type. In conclusion, it should be noted that the interaction of different discourse types within the electronic scientific journal is accompanied by formation of the new discourse type of a higher level – the discourse of electronic scientific-practical journal. The uniqueness of the functioning of the scientific journal based on the electronic platform enhances this interaction of the discourses in which the imposition of all language elements, structures, relations, strategies and characteristics happen at the same time

THE FIRST RUSSIAN TRAVEL RELATION IN SOUTH AFRICA (1808)

DescriptionThis article examines the story of the unexpected stay of lieutenant Vasily Golovnin in South Africa in 1808 during his famous navigation around the world. In fact, the Russian sailor had to stop in Simonstown for a short while to stock up and put his boat in shape. However, his visit on this archipelago which newly belonged to British had coincided with the moments of crisis between Russian and British empires in Europe. These events obliged Golovnin to stay in the Cape of Good Hope for thirteen months. Enjoying his freedom of movement, the young navigator will exploit this long stay to describe the daily life of South African people. During his travels across the Cape Colony, Golovnin meets with colonists and colonized, and tells about the mechanism of their cohabitation. Even if it is not so abundant, his travelogue remains the first one realized by a Russian on South Africa and will always be crucial for the future generations of Russian mariners who will follow his itinerary. From Kronstadt to Kamchatka, Golovnin described the amazing events, but there, it will exclusively focus on the part of his travelogue [3] about his long and exceptional “stay at the Cape of Good Hope”
