DescriptionThe development of international cooperation has promoted the updating of problems connected with business communication effectiveness. These problems are very crucial, because their solution may predetermine the collaboration success of business partners. The integral part of this success is the efficiency of the exchange of textual information. Nowadays the main information exchange method in modern business relations is business correspondence in English; therefore, its research makes an important contribution to the solution of the pressing problem connected with the achievement of some goals in business. In the article, we analyze both general and specific linguistic features of English business letters, which differ them from texts of other fields of human activity. A special attention is paid to the question of the content and presence degree of lexicological and phraseological units in English business letters. In the end the author comes to the conclusion that business communication is considered effective if it contributes to the mutual understanding of partners with the help of the most optimal means. The analysis of practical material showed that these means could be lexicological and phraseological units. The correct choice of these units helps with the formation of those features of a business letter, which would make it effective

DescriptionThe article is devoted to the consideration of lexical and stylistic problems of political media discourse translation. The work compares the English-language fragments of the political discourse of the media and their translations into Russian in order to identify features of the translation of linguistic means, taking into account their pragmatic potential. The article emphasizes the manipulative potential of the political media discourse with the aim of influencing public opinion, forming the necessary attitude of the masses to power, lexical and stylistic features of the texts of the political discourse of the media are revealed to realize this potential. The theoretical significance and novelty of this study is due to the greatly increased interest in the study of the political discourse of the media in the aspect of translation, since the political discourse of the media reflects social and political events in the life of society, while an adequate translation of the political discourse of the media ensures the creation of the foreign political image of the state and its political leaders. It is concluded that the translator should not only correctly choose the lexical and -stylistic means in the target language, but also take into account non-linguistic factors when choosing strategies and tactics of translation. Among the main strategies for translating political media discourse, one can note the selection of equivalents and functional analogs, compensation and generalization of meanings

DescriptionThis article describes some interesting facts of Modern English and Greek Grammar and pay our attention to extension of constructions “noun + article” without article in publicist-oral speech, where it should be. Our observations show some phenomena of evolution of system “noun + article”. This article is due to some cases of using articles, which we can’t often find in traditional native and foreign normal grammars. In English Grammar the ellipsis of article meets stylistic and syntax’s requirements. But there isn’t such limitation in Greek Grammar, that’s why on the one hand, we qualify the ellipsis of article as a realization of category determinacyindeterminacy, and on the other hand, we can see the generalization of the meaning of article. Illustrative materials are newspapers’ articles of classical British dialectical English and Dimotiki (oral New Greek).There are not only main rules of articles in periodical and oral speech, but also the meaning of nouns, which we can understand from surrounding context and geographical position, also as a style of periodical publications

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF KEY WORDS DURING THE FORMATION OF A SEARCH QUERY

DescriptionThis article was written in the mainstream of modern Lingua-pragmatic research and is dedicated to the analysis of the criteria for selecting keywords during the formation of a search query. The choice of this type of Internet communication is due, first of all, to the fact that the search query is a text consisting entirely of keywords, aside from that search query is used in everyday speech practice regularly and often. The article suggests possible criteria for the selection of keywords; we have developed a technique for analyzing the search query in a communicative aspect. The main methods studies were continuous sampling of the material, linguistic experiment and semantic and communicative analysis. Particular attention is paid to the difficulties arising in the analysis of requests in which the producer's intention is not clearly expressed. The results of the research are important for understanding the linguistic essence of the keyword, the principles of the formation of search queries and can be used in the analysis of keywords in different types of texts. Practical significance of the research is that taking into account the given criteria in the choice of keywords allows reducing the communicative risks arising in the process of the search query formation

CORRELATION OF TERMS “WORD PICTURE OF A CHARACTER” AND “LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL CHARACTER TYPE”

DescriptionThe basic terms important for the linguistic and cultural studies analysis such as "word picture of a character" and “linguistic and cultural character type” are described in the article altogether with the analysis of the relationship between these concepts as exemplified in the novel "The Godfather" by M. Puzo. The cultural component of literary texts focuses on the cross-cultural pragmatics, underlining the method of linguistic and cultural character type modelling as it is a personalized artistic concept with an intertextual character. The research highlighted that the given method draws excessive attention to common features of the considered characters, therefore, partially ignoring certain characteristics possessed by individual characters. There are good reasons to add the research of the word picture of the character as a part of the individual author world picture to the method. The article explains the rationale of a contaminated term "linguistic and cultural image" as the best one explains the individually expressed features of character, ethnoculturaly determined
